Dr. Asumugha is a board-certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist dedicated to providing compassionate, comprehensive, and patient-centered care to women at every stage of life throughout Webster, the greater Houston area, and surrounding Galveston, Brazoria, and Harris County communities. With more than 30 years of clinical experience, he brings extensive medical expertise, academic distinction, and a deep commitment to personalized patient care to his practice as the owner of A’fina Houston OB/GYN.

Dr. Asumugha earned his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine and completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he served as Administrative Chief Resident. His academic accomplishment during residency includes research on the association between HPV and cervical cancer, the correlation of PID and preterm labor with ultrasound findings, and a comparative study of terbutaline and nifedipine as tocolytic therapies

With a genuine passion for women’s health and a thoughtful, individualized approach to care, Dr. Asumugha offers extensive expertise in both obstetrics and gynecologic surgery. He specializes in normal and high-risk pregnancies and has extensive experience managing a broad range of pregnancy-related conditions, including chronic hypertension, preeclampsia, pregestational and gestational diabetes, placental disorders, previous preterm labor, miscarriage, multiple gestation, advanced maternal age, and adolescent pregnancy. He is also highly experienced in cesarean sections and operative deliveries.

Dr. Asumugha places great value on building lasting relationships with his patients while promoting preventive care and lifelong gynecologic wellness. He provides personalized, compassionate care to women at every stage of life, from adolescence through the reproductive years, menopause, and beyond. With extensive expertise in gynecologic surgery, he offers a comprehensive range of procedures, including hysterectomy, myomectomy, minimally invasive laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, pelvic floor and prolapse repair, and other vaginal and abdominal procedures. He takes the time to listen carefully, answer questions, and thoughtfully discuss treatment options, ensuring that each patient feels informed, confident, and actively involved in her care.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Asumugha is deeply committed to medical education and mentorship. He currently serves as a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Houston Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. In this role, he mentors and teaches medical students and Obstetrics and Gynecology residents, as well as physician assistants and nurse practitioners from other institutions of higher education.

Throughout his career, Dr. Asumugha has held numerous clinical and leadership positions within the Memorial Hermann healthcare system and HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake Hospital. He has been recognized for his dedication to excellence in patient care and has served as Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital, as well as a member of the Executive Committee at HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake Hospital.

Dr. Asumugha also serves as Chairman of Imo Medical Mission, providing medical and surgical care to underserved communities in Nigeria, Jamaica, and other countries. Through these missions, he shares his expertise while training medical students, Obstetrics and Gynecology residents, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners in international healthcare settings. Throughout his career, Dr. Asumugha has remained committed to delivering knowledgeable, compassionate, and individualized care, with each patient’s health and well-being at the center of his practice. He has built a respected and successful practice grounded in trust, excellence, and enduring relationships with generations of patients.
